The Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko stressed that the effects of the destruction of the dam in Nowa Kakhovka by Russian forces are yet to be assessed, but it can already be said that they will be very serious, both for the environment and human health. Laszko denied reports from some media about the detection of a case of cholera in the country, but warned that the risk of this and other diseases exists.

— Many sewage facilities, places of animal burials and septic tanks have been flooded. And if contaminated water ends up in the water supply system, it could lead to an outbreak of acute gastrointestinal infections, including cholera, warned Laszko.

Last week, dniprotoday have reported that the Russians had blown up a dam on the Dnieper River in Nova Kakhovka, which forms the 240 km long Kakhovsky Reservoir. The hydroelectric power plant located on the dam was completely destroyed. Water flooded dozens of nearby settlements.
