Zelensky announced joint production of weapons with the United States: what is it about?

There is an agreement between Ukraine and the USA on the joint production of weapons. Volodymyr Zelensky announced information about long-term cooperation after a meeting in Washington with his American colleague Joe Biden. Thanks to this, in the future, Ukraine will be able to produce air defense systems.

Ukraine will be able to produce, in particular, anti-aircraft missiles

“Together with the United States, we are preparing to create a new defense ecosystem to jointly produce weapons to further strengthen freedom and protect life. This will have positive effects on a global scale," added Volodymyr Zelensky.

As the President of Ukraine said, the US will provide a new aid package that will include air defense, artillery, missiles, and engineering equipment.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also said that Ukraine would receive $128 million in new security assistance and $197 million for weapons and equipment.

According to him, Washington understands that Ukraine must be helped to strengthen itself in order to repel Russian air attacks next winter. Therefore, the new military aid package includes in particular additional ammunition for air defense.

“The package includes additional air defenses that will help strengthen Ukraine's air defenses against Russian attacks now and next winter, when Russia is likely to resume firing on Ukrainian critical infrastructure,” Anthony Blinken said.

Zelensky's visit to the USA

Before his visit to Washington, Volodymyr Zelensky spoke in New York at the UN General Assembly - for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The president assured that Ukraine is doing everything to ensure that no one in the world will dare to attack any country after Russian aggression. Zelensky also recalled that Ukraine gave up its third largest nuclear arsenal. The President of Ukraine also reminded that Russia turns many other things into weapons, such as food.

Russia is trying to use food shortages on the world market as a weapon in exchange for recognition of the occupation of some - if not all - of the acquired territories. Russia uses food prices as a weapon.
The head of the country also emphasized the fact that Russia is turning nuclear energy into a weapon. For example, he shelled and occupied the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and is currently blackmailing others by threatening to leak radiation.
