The dislike of feminists was imported from Russia. Laughs are taken when elderly Komsomol members call girls born in 2000 communists.
Why don't they like feminists?
So fashionable in Russia. For quite a long time, Russian narratives were hidden in Ukraine: cinema, music and hatred of feminism. About this write Nikopol Today.
From the 19th century to our time, the method of ridiculing feminists has not changed. Defenders of women's rights are attributed with leftism, pacifism, hatred of men and marginal behavior. All these are narratives of the northern neighbor that must be discarded.
Another bad myth. The history of Ukrainian feminism dates back to the end of the 19th century and began with the "Society of Russian Women" founded by the writer Natalia Kobrynska in Stanislav. Feminists were Olga Kobylyanska, Lesya Ukrainka, Sofia Okunevska - the first woman doctor in Austria-Hungary. Therefore, it becomes funny when old Komsomol members with a humanitarian education shout about Rosa Luxemburg posters to girls born in 2000.
No one hates men because of XY chromosomes and the presence of a penis. Men are criticized for their strictly masculine behavior, which is the result of socialization rather than biological characteristics.
Manifestations of toxic masculinity are the harassment of women who do not meet the standards of beauty, do not engage in service work, and generally do not meet the standards of femininity. Sometimes men resort to physical violence against such women. Agree that it is difficult to hold back hatred for such men.
Of course, this does not stand up to criticism. Lesbians can become mothers through artificial insemination and raise children. In addition, a woman is a person, not an instrument for the reproduction of the population. Pregnancy and childbirth are a risk to life and health. Therefore, a woman has the right to choose. Even if this choice is not in favor of demographic policy.
Feminists are supporters of a woman's right to her own body, not fans of abortion. Human rights defenders advocate access to contraception and family planning. Since none of the methods of contraception, except for sterilization, gives a 100% guarantee, we have to fight for the right to abortion. The latter is a harmful procedure for a woman's body, but an unwanted pregnancy is psychologically and physically more harmful than an abortion.
