Ukraine is not letting go of Crimea. A military expert reveals part of the plan

Chernyk believes Ukraine stands a better chance of reclaiming Crimea compared to Donbas

"We have to sink the Crimean Bridge", says Petro Chernyk, outlining a strategic goal to regain control of the Crimean Peninsula. A military expert, Chernyk believes Ukraine stands a better chance of reclaiming Crimea compared to Donbas. In a recent interview, he detailed what Kyiv needs for a successful operation.

"We have to sink the Crimean Bridge"

Chernyk asserts that blowing up the Kerch Bridge, a vital crossing for Russian troops, is essential. The bridge serves as a conduit for transporting heavy equipment and ammunition. Ukrainian forces have already damaged the structure multiple times in attacks. "If this happens," Chernyk states, "we will be able to achieve this strategic goal".

However, merely destroying the bridge won't ensure the recovery of Crimea. Chernyk emphasizes the need to control the airspace over the peninsula and neutralize any movement, including shooting down aircraft like Il-76 or A-164 and sinking large landing ships. He suggests employing F-16 fighters equipped with long-range missiles, capable of engaging targets from a safe distance.

Despite the feasibility of the plan, the main challenge lies in Ukraine's access to weapons and ammunition.

Chernyk believes that for Crimea to return to Ukraine, it requires substantial support from Western allies, particularly the United States. He expresses concerns that the Biden administration may hesitate due to fears surrounding Russia's nuclear capabilities and its artillery shell production capacity.

In summary, Chernyk's plan hinges on strategic actions like destroying the Crimean Bridge and controlling airspace, but the successful execution depends on securing sufficient military support from Western allies, particularly the United States.
