Ukraine has fulfilled 90% of the European Commission's recommendations

Deputy head of the OP Ihor Zhovkva met with the special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece for Ukraine, Spiridon Lambridis.

This was announced in the press service of the Chancellery of the President.

On the eve of the European Council summit, Ukraine's work on the path of integration with the EU was discussed. Zhovkva informed Lambridis about the progress in reforming the state achieved in the period after the European Commission published the recommendation to start negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the European Union.

Ukraine has fulfilled more than 90% of the necessary recommendations of the European Commission and is counting on a fair decision from the European Union, based on relevant achievements

the official said.

The parties also discussed the state of implementation of the agreements, based on the results of President Volodymyr Zelensky's August visit to Greece, during which, in particular, the first Ukrainian-Balkan summit was held.

Particular attention was paid to the security situation in Ukraine and the state's needs to effectively conduct counter-offensive actions aimed at liberating the territories temporarily occupied by Russia.

What is known about Ukraine's accession to the EU

At the summit in Brussels on June 23, the European Council granted Ukraine EU candidate status. Ukraine must implement several important reforms, especially related to the rule of law, oligarchs, and corruption.

“The Commission recommends giving Ukraine a European perspective. This is, of course, provided that the country carries out a number of important reforms. According to the committee, Ukraine has clearly demonstrated its willingness and determination to live in accordance with European values ​​and standards" said the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen.

“A series of important reforms” are the following seven conditions:

  • reform of the Constitutional Tribunal;
  • continuation of judicial reform;
  • counteracting corruption, including the appointment of the head of SAP;
  • fight against money laundering;
  • introduction of anti-oligarchic law;
  • harmonization of audiovisual legislation with European legislation;
  • changes in legislation regarding national minorities.
