Ukrainian trucks stuck on the border with Poland due to the blockade will be transported on rail platforms

  • The first train on the Izow-Hrubieszów route, carrying 23 trucks, is currently standing at the border and is controlled by Polish services.
  • As soon as this test train passes and everything is OK, we will launch mass transport, said the Ukrainian official.
  • So far, the Polish and Ukrainian authorities have not been able to agree with the protesters on the conditions for ending the blockade and reaching a compromise.

If the tests are successful, transport will be carried out on a mass scale

"The first train of the Izow-Hrubieszów route, carrying 23 trucks, is currently standing at the border and is being controlled by Polish services" - said Valeriy Tkachev, deputy director of the commercial department of Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukrainian State Railways.

He added that the Ukrainian and Polish sides are currently agreeing on technical issues. Polish customs services have questions about the dimensions of cargo and the presence of fuel in the tanks of delivery vehicles.

Approximately 3,000 people are waiting to enter Poland. This is due to the blockade carried out by Polish carriers, whose main demand is to limit the volume of transport and reduce the number of permits for such transport for Ukrainian drivers.

According to the authorities in Kyiv and the EU authorities in Brussels, this is not possible. So far, the Polish and Ukrainian authorities have not been able to agree with the protesters on the conditions for ending the blockade and reaching a compromise, Reuters wrote.

Polish-Ukrainian attempts to solve the problem at the border

Polish and Ukrainian businesses are creating a platform for dialogue in order to reach a compromise in connection with the border blockade. The first meeting will be on Friday, December 8. The matter is urgent because every day without solving the problem means losses for both parties.

The dialogue platform is the idea of the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine (FRU). The organizations notified the governments of Poland and Ukraine and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, about it.

On Wednesday (December 6), the Infrastructure Committee met to discuss the protest of Polish carriers on the border with Ukraine. After returning from Brussels, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Rafał Weber presented to the MPs a report from the meeting of the EU Transport Council, at which the Polish side presented the topic. This was the implementation of last week's announcement made after a meeting between ministry representatives and protesters.
