Ukraine and the US have signed a preliminary agreement on joint production of weapons in Ukraine
The United States, in consultation with the authorities in Kyiv, decided to establish factories and produce weapons in Ukraine. The signed letter of intent includes cooperation with, among others, in the production of drones and anti-tank systems.
The decision was announced during a conference organized for representatives of the American arms industry at the Department of Commerce in Washington.
Letter of intent signed, among others, by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, contains information on joint intentions to co-produce and exchange technical data, produce air defense systems, and key ammunition for military operations, and maintain and repair equipment used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
We must work to enable the exchange of technical data packages and advanced manufacturing to allow Ukraine to produce equipment closer to the battlefield
Austin explained.
The Ukrainian authorities were personally represented by Defense Minister Rustam Umerov and the head of the president's cabinet, Andriy Yermak. President Volodymyr Zelensky also delivered a speech remotely.
As the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense emphasized in his speech, the signed agreement contains nearly 20 points defining new principles of cooperation. Thanks to their implementation, American equipment will be tested in war conditions, which will be a significant benefit for both sides.
The conference held in Washington was a continuation of the events of September, when a similar meeting was held in Ukraine. Over 350 companies and government institutions from the USA, Ukraine and Europe took part in both editions.
