As a result of the Russian attack in the Pokrovsk district of the Donetsk region, 11 people were killed, including five children, according to Vadym Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk regional military administration. Ukrainians are tired of the war and constant bombing.

"The Russians attacked this area with S-300 missiles, killing 11 people and injuring another eight. The main attack took place in Pokrovsk and Rivne in the Myrnohrad commune. The enemy is cynically attacking the civilian population, trying to bring as much misfortune as possible to our land. They will be punished for everything!"

In Pokrovsk, according to information from local authorities, six houses have been destroyed. Rescuers and police are working on-site.

Pokrovsk, where 60,000 people lived before the war, was the target of a Russian attack once before, in August last year. Nine people died, and 82 were injured. The city is located approximately 50 kilometers from the front line.

After the recent massive shelling of Kharkiv, people are again leaving Ukraine's second-largest city for safety reasons. Residents are afraid not only of missiles but also of another Russian offensive, which may begin after they capture nearby Kupyansk, where very heavy fighting is currently taking place.

The situation in Kharkov is being monitored by the director of Caritas in this city, Father Wojciech Stasiewicz. The priest emphasizes that intense shelling of the city has been going on for two weeks, but now the targets of Russian missiles are not military facilities but places where civilians gather. There is also anxiety in the city related to the difficult situation on the front. "The attacks concerned civilian buildings, tenement houses, blocks of flats, two hospitals, and schools. There is also a lot of information that Russian forces are accumulating near the border. Not a day goes by without attempts to break the defense, and if Kupyansk is captured, the road to Kharkov will be open," the priest emphasized.

Ukrainians are tired of the war

Father Stasiewicz emphasizes that the situation resembles that of the first weeks of the Russian invasion. Its inhabitants are leaving Kharkiv, and refugees from all over eastern Ukraine are coming to the city. People are now apparently tired of the war, and many of them feel resigned, while others become indifferent about who will win the ongoing conflict.

"There is no enthusiasm like at the beginning, no great unity. We also often hear, even in these border towns, people saying that they don't care, as long as there is peace," he said.

There is also a growing political dispute throughout Ukraine and a decline in trust for the civilian authorities in Kyiv. Father Stasiewicz emphasizes that the country is no longer as united as it was a year ago on the streets.

"What concerned the president for several months, now people have a lot of trust in the army, especially General Załużny. What used to be a strength now resembles a division in the country"

For two years, Kharkiv has been constantly living in the shadow of the ongoing war and trying to cope with its consequences. Kindergartens are to be opened in the Kharkiv metro, joining schools that have been operating underground since September last year.
