This autumn and winter, the Russians will try to repeat the terror against Ukrainian energy - Zelensky

With autumn and winter approaching, worrying signs indicate that Russia may attempt to repeat the terror against Ukraine's energy sector in order to weaken the country and increase Russia's dominance in the international arena. 

During a congress of local and regional authorities in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about the possibility of further attacks by Russia on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. This warning raises serious concerns about the approaching autumn and winter when the inhabitants of Ukraine have to face difficulties related to the provision of heat and electricity in their homes.

"This is a very important meeting right now when it is time to prepare for the winter season at both the state and regional and municipal levels. We must be aware that Russian terrorists will try to continue their attacks on the Ukrainian energy industry, against the normal life of people. But our steadfastness must prevail" Zelensky said.

Preparations for another very difficult winter in history

Since the aggression against Ukraine in 2022, Russia has systematically used various methods of political pressure, including attacks on the country's energy infrastructure. These actions led to interruptions in electricity supplies, causing great difficulties for residents, especially in winter. Extremely difficult weather conditions that prevail in winter in Ukraine additionally increase the risk of threats to human health and life.

At the same time, President Zelensky emphasized the need to secure funds for the country's defense. Military challenges related to Russia's aggression still face Ukraine, which is why local budgets should also be focused on supporting the military and volunteers who defend the country on the front line.

"There are significant funds in local budgets that need to be spent from the position of a statesman. Everyone sees what the needs are on the front line. Everyone sees what the volunteers focus on" President Zelensky stressed.

The international community should show solidarity and help

Ukraine must act with determination to prepare for another very difficult winter in its history and face potential attacks on its energy infrastructure. The international community should show solidarity with Ukraine, both politically and financially, in order to help the country to rebuild and strengthen its energy resources, as well as to strengthen the country's defense in the face of external aggressions.

Zelensky concluded his speech by emphasizing the strong will of the Ukrainian people to overcome their difficulties and persevere in the face of the challenges they face this fall and winter. At the same time, he expressed hope that Ukraine, supported by its citizens and the international community, would survive this difficult period and regain its strength and stability.
