Russia. Viktor Orban and Vladimir Putin shook hands. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas criticizes Hungary

- I hope he at least washed and disinfected his hands after shaking hands with Putin – replied Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba when asked about the recent meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Russian dictator. The diplomat did not hide his outrage at the meeting, which caused a huge stir in the media. What was outrageous was not only the conversation, but also the fact that Orban called the war in Ukraine a “military operation” to the delight of the Russians.

During a conversation with a France24 journalist, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that "Russia is benefiting from the war in the Middle East". At the same time, he expressed satisfaction with the fact that Ukraine's partners unanimously stated that the Hamas-Israel conflict cannot "overshadow what is happening in Ukraine".

Dmytro Kuleba also praised Washington's support for Ukraine and said he looked at the situation optimistically, even though The US presidential campaign is approaching, and "discordant voices" regarding aid to Ukraine are becoming louder and louder.

War in Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Hungary met with Vladimir Putin

During the conversation, he also noted that Russia is constantly trying to change the narrative regarding its aggression against Ukraine. In this context, it is also worth emphasizing the role of other politicians who consciously fit into the Russian way of presenting information about the war.

Recently, there has been much talk about Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to China and his meeting with President Vladimir Putin. As the prime minister's press spokesman, Bertalan Havasi, informed then, politicians discussed, among others, Hungarian-Russian cooperation in the field of gas and oil supplies and nuclear energy.

During the short conversation, the politicians also talked about supporting and building further joint ventures. The very fact of the meeting caused a huge political and media stir in many countries, but it seems that the words of the Hungarian Prime Minister were the last straw. He called Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine a “military operation”, which Kremlin propaganda has been talking about from the very beginning.

Controversy after Orban's meeting with Putin. Dmytro Kuleba comments

The controversial meeting and the words of the Hungarian head of government were commented on by local MP Marton Tompos, who pointed out that this is "not a special operation, but a war in which people are murdered, including Transcarpathian Hungarians, on Putin's orders".

Orban's attitude was also commented on by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine himself, who did not hide his outrage. When asked about the handshake that Viktor Orban and Vladimir Putin exchanged, Dmytro Kuleba made a short but very eloquent statement.

- I hope he at least washed and disinfected his hands after shaking hands with Putin – he said bluntly.
