An incident unfolded at the Orlovka village checkpoint along the Ukrainian-Romanian border when Russian forces launched a drone attack. According to Yuri Dimchoglo, the founder of the ferry complex responsible for organizing border crossings, there was a close call involving a bus filled with children just before the attack took place. This assault on the ferry crossing in Orlovka, located in the Odesa Oblast, transpired at approximately 2 a.m. on a Tuesday.
Dimchoglo acknowledged that the attack caused damage to the civilian infrastructure of the checkpoint. Multiple trucks caught fire, and warehouses sustained harm as well. He revealed that there was a relatively short window of 10-15 minutes between the activation of the alarm siren and the initial drone attack.
- There were two buses at the checkpoint, one for entering Ukraine, the other for leaving. There were children on the departing bus. He was quickly dismissed and put on a Romanian ferry. Thank God they weren't here, he added.
Remarkably, there were two buses present at the checkpoint, one destined for entry into Ukraine and the other for exiting. The departing bus was carrying children, and it was swiftly evacuated and transferred onto a Romanian ferry, narrowly avoiding the danger. Dimchoglo expressed gratitude that the children were not present when the attack occurred.
Unfortunately, the second bus, which remained at the checkpoint, suffered damage as the shock wave from the attack shattered its windows. The drivers of this bus sustained injuries.
In response to this situation, the Romanian Ministry of Defense issued a statement condemning the illegal and unwarranted attacks. They emphasized that the aviation situation near the state border had been under constant surveillance, underlining their stance against such unjustified actions.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense commented on the incident. In a statement published on social media, it was assured that "the aviation situation near the state border was constantly monitored."
“We strongly condemn unjustified and illegal attacks” it stressed.
