The Ukrainian deputy minister in Dorohusk accused the protesting Poles

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Kristianis Karinsh, called for a solution to the situation that arose at the border due to the protest of Polish carriers and expressed readiness to help. The diplomat announced this during a telephone conversation with the Minister of European Affairs in the Polish government, Szymon Shinkowski vel Senek.

The parties also discussed the upcoming summit of the European Council, which should consider opening negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

Karinsh confirmed Latvia's strong support for Kiev. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Ukraine belongs to Europe, which is why Riga is in favor of starting accession negotiations this year.

What is known about the protest of Polish carriers

On November 6, around 2 p.m. Ukrainian time, Polish carriers began to block truck traffic at the "Krakowiec-Korchowa", "Jagodin-Dorohusk" and "Rava-Ruska-Hrebene" checkpoints.

Tomasz Borkowski said that representatives of transport companies joined the blockade. They demand the return of commercial transport permits to Ukraine.

Protesters said they would not block the traffic of buses, cars, and trucks carrying humanitarian aid to Ukraine, animals or perishable goods.

The "Ukrawtoprom" association, citing the Association of International Transport of Ukraine, noted that the reason for the strikes is excessive competition after the liberalization of international transport between Ukraine and EU countries.

Participants should discuss the implementation of memoranda on the capacity of Ukrainian-Polish checkpoints.

We received information about the possible blocking of checkpoints by Polish carriers. Our position is that such strikes and blockades harm everyone: both Ukrainian and Polish carriers. We are ready for a dialogue in which the interests of carriers of both countries will be equally represented

said Serhiy Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development.

A meeting with the European Commission Directorate is scheduled for October 31. The key goal is to develop common solutions that will help increase capacity and ensure stable functioning of the border.
