Syria: Five killed in Russian airstrikes. The mother, father and three children died

On Tuesday, Russian airstrikes in Syria killed a family of five, including three children. The fourth child, who was pulled from the rubble, survived. The conflict, ongoing since 2011, has already claimed the lives of half a million people.

The attack began on December 25 at 10 p.m. on the outskirts of the city of Armanaz in Idlib province.

After the attack, members of the White Helmets search and rescue organization started helping people stuck under the rubble of their own homes. On Tuesday, the AFP agency, citing reports from the director of the White Helmets rescue group, stated that five people from the same family were killed as a result of the shelling.

"The victims came from the same family of six: five of them died, and one child survived"
said Abdel Halim Shehab.

He identified the victims as a father, a mother, and three children.

War in Syria. Russia attacks the rebels

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the White Helmets' reports.

There has been a civil war in Syria for 12 years, following the suppression of pro-democracy demonstrations in 2011. Over half a million people have already lost their lives during the conflict.

Russia has been regularly attacking rebels controlling the Idlib region since 2015. The Kremlin is one of the main allies of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. Thanks to Moscow's support, the Syrian authorities managed to regain much of the territory lost to the rebels at the beginning of the conflict.
