According to Russian sources, there was an extensive attack by Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region. Former SBU officer and member of the so-called The Russian Guard of the Donetsk People's Republic said that the Ukrainians are trying to break through Russian lines using "a significant number of combat vehicles".

The described attack of Ukrainian forces on the Donetsk Oblast was supposed to be a spectacular attempt to break Russian defense lines. It began with a powerful artillery fire that destroyed the minefields and the enemy's fortifications. Reports from Russian sources suggest that the Ukrainians are trying to open a new breach in the Russian defensive lines along the Novodonetsk-Novomayorski axis, especially in the Novodonetsk area.

The areas mentioned by Oleksandr Chodawski (quoted, for example, by "Ukrainian Pravda" and Russian Telegram channels) are crucial in the context of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Intensive shelling was to have a significant impact not only on the morale of Russian soldiers, but was also to lead to the destruction of mine barriers, making it difficult for the sappers to rebuild the fortifications. This allowed the Ukrainians to approach with infantry fighting vehicles with almost no losses.

However, after a successful advance, the Ukrainian forces withdrew for some distance, avoiding Russian artillery fire. Fighting continued on the main axis where the Russian troops were stationed, especially in the direction of Novomajorsk and Velyka Nowosilki.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian side does not comment on sensational reports from Russian sources and has traditionally remained calm. However, if the attack is successful on the Ukrainian side, it will open the way to the cities of Mariupol, Berdyansk and Melitopol, which are still under Russian occupation.
