Information about the shooting down of the Russian aircraft was provided on Sunday evening by Oleksandr Syrski, the commander of Ukraine's land forces.
"Russian Mi-8 shot down. Excellent work of the 25th Independent Airborne Brigade. It burns beautifully. Well done," he wrote on social media. Earlier on Sunday, Syrski reported that the 54th Independent Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine was working on "destroying the Russians" near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. FPV drones are used in the operations of the Ukrainian army, i.e. with a live viewing option.
The wreck fell near a strip of roadside trees. According to Ukrainian sources, the shooting took place in the Luhansk Oblast in an unknown location. The Mi-8 is a medium-sized transport helicopter that is currently the basic machine of this class in the Russian armed forces. Before the war, there were several hundreds of them in service (data are divergent here, according to some sources there were about 300 of them, according to others almost 800).
Currently, there are approximately 25 of these aircraft among the confirmed losses of this type, including four belonging to the electronic warfare version. In addition, at least several Mi-8s were damaged. The Ukrainians also have a similar number of confirmed losses of this type of machines.

Mi-8/17 is a universal design, widely used around the world (including Poland), which, in addition to transport and combat rescue tasks, after installing pylons on the armament, can also support own troops with unguided missiles and machine guns. Many specialized versions have also been created.
However, their large dimensions and lower maneuverability than 10-ton helicopters such as the Black Hawk mean that their value as a battlefield support machine is limited.
On Saturday, Oleksandr Syrski reported that Russian troops had resumed attacks in the Kupyansk direction in the Kharkiv region. As he reported, heavy fighting is ongoing on site. - After the losses inflicted on him, the enemy regained his strength within two months and began offensive operations in the Makiivka area and then towards Kupiańska. Heavy fighting is going on, he said. Syrski visited Ukrainian soldiers Łyman on Saturday.
Oleksandr Syrski said that in recent days the situation in both the Lyman and Kupany directions "has become significantly more severe."
