On the morning of January 23, Russian troops shelled Ukraine, resulting in significant casualties and widespread damage. The most affected area was Kharkiv, where eight people lost their lives, including an eight-year-old girl. The force of the attack was so intense that it destroyed an entire entrance to a residential building, leaving neighboring structures without windows.

In Pavlograd, one person died, 15 skyscrapers and cars were damaged, and 33 private houses suffered varying degrees of damage. Additionally, explosions and fires were reported in the Sviatoshyn, Pechersk, and Solomyn regions of Kyiv. A rocket penetrated an apartment in the Sviatoshyn district, prompting the evacuation of residents from the affected block.

The morning assault led to fires, air raids, and numerous injuries, with approximately 100 civilians, including children, reported injured or killed, according to the summary from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In Kharkiv, a rescue operation was initiated, and the body of the eighth victim, an eight-year-old girl, was recovered from the rubble. The Kharkiv District Prosecutor's Office confirmed the girl's identity.

Oleksiy Biloshicki, the first deputy head of the police patrol department, shared a video on Telegram depicting the initial moments of the attack on Kharkiv.

Russian troops shell cities, leaving destruction and casualties

In the Dnipro region, specifically in Pavlograd, one person was killed, and significant damage was inflicted on buildings and infrastructure. The enemy targeted the Nikopol area with kamikaze drones and artillery after the missile attack on Pavlograd. The region experienced fires, destruction of private houses, a sanatorium, and other facilities.

In Kyiv, the rescue operation was completed in the evening, with 22 people, including four children, reported injured. About 200 rescuers and 40 pieces of equipment were involved in responding to 176 reports of explosions and fires in various locations across the Sviatoshin, Pechersk, and Solomyansk regions. A Russian rocket struck an apartment in the Svyatoshyn district but did not explode. Residents were evacuated from the affected skyscraper and nearby buildings, with around 80 people receiving psychological assistance.

According to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, three skyscrapers, commercial buildings, 21 passenger cars, and a cafe building were damaged in the region. Fragments of Russian rockets were found on the premises of two educational institutions, with one high school sustaining window damage.
