Lavrov: NATO wants to attack Russia. Kremlin propaganda now portrays the West, not Ukraine, as the enemy
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US, Great Britain and other countries are “directly at war with us”. A Kremlin representative said on Saturday evening that Western countries "are waging war against Russia. In his opinion, Washington is “using Ukrainians as cannon fodder”.
"We can call it a hybrid war, but it does not change the reality", the Russian minister said about the West's involvement in helping Ukraine, quoted by CNN.
Lavrov drew attention to the supply of weapons and support for Kyiv from the Western coalition. “The United States, Great Britain and other countries are directly at war with Moscow," he said. He added that "they are effectively engaging in hostilities with us, using Ukrainians as cannon fodder”.
He said the US and other allies were giving Ukraine “increasing amounts of weapons” and Western satellites and reconnaissance planes were also participating in the war effort.
Lavrov stressed that the Kremlin would not agree to restore the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea. As reported by Reuters, according to the Russian side, the plan prepared by the UN will not be adopted “because it does not meet Moscow's needs”. Referring to this issue, Lavrov called the West an “empire of lies”.
“The main reason we left this agreement, and it ceased to be valid, is that everything we were promised turned out to be a fraud”, Lavrov said.
The Russian minister also rejected the peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “The plan does not envisage handing over the territory of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, nor does Kiev give up its efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – which are two points of contention for Moscow”, CNN reported.
A few days ago, Lavrov tried to convince his UN audience that the “special military operation” currently underway in Ukraine is a consequence of Western countries agreeing to violate the Minsk agreements.
In his opinion, the basic human rights of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic were violated.
At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized that the West is avoiding discussions about the real causes of the current crisis in Ukraine.
