Scandal in the army. The soldiers were given rotten food

The Ukrainian Ministry of National Defense has announced an urgent inspection of food warehouses intended for the army. The officials' actions are a consequence of the scandal publicized by soldiers receiving spoiled food rations.

A special announcement on this matter appeared on the social media of the Ministry of Defense. According to the report, Deputy Minister Vitaly Polovenko and Gennady Kryvosheya, a member of the Anti-Corruption Council, carried out unscheduled inspections of warehouses from which food was supplied to soldiers staying in the east of the country.

"We are responding to complaints from the military, which is why we came for an unplanned visit to the units. We are addressing the issues. During the inspection, it turned out that the food was delivered on time, but its quality did not meet the standards"
Gennady Kryvosheya said.

The profile also featured photos showing stored food. Among other things, a photo was published of rotten bananas that were supposed to be given to soldiers at the front.

Scandal in the army. The new authorities are fighting corruption

The Ministry of Defense announced the imposition of financial penalties on all companies where irregularities are detected. Moreover, it was also announced that if spoiled rations are detected, the ministry will demand a refund of the money spent on food.

Problems in the Ukrainian army. The new authorities are fighting corruption

The information provided by the Ukrainian Ministry of National Defense is another report showing huge problems associated with the functioning of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In December 2023, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that work was underway to change staff who “use old practices” in the field of public procurement. It was a clear message announcing the dismissal of employees who may be involved in corrupt activities related to supplies sent to the army.

In November last year, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the dismantling of a criminal group that was engaged in the illegal sale of products purchased by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to a statement from the services, at least 30 percent of products that were supposed to be included in food rations for soldiers disappeared from warehouses. However, these items found their way to store shelves.
