Britain and the US attacked the Houthis in Yemen. This is retaliation for the attacks in the Red Sea

In response to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea, the United States, alongside the United Kingdom and supported by Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, carried out airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. The move has sparked strong reactions globally.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks, labeling them a clear violation of Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a breach of international law. Iran, a supporter of the Houthi rebels, argued that such Western interventions contribute to insecurity and instability in the region.

Russia swiftly called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, expressing concern over the military action. Meanwhile, Houthi rebels vowed retaliation against the US for the strikes, stating that any attack by American forces would trigger a severe military response.

The US attack was a reaction to aggression from the Houthi

The US justified its actions, citing previous Houthi aggression that targeted international shipping in the Red Sea. The attacks disrupted a crucial trade route between Europe and Asia, responsible for 15% of global maritime transport. President Joe Biden emphasized that the strikes aimed to send a message that the US and its allies would not tolerate threats to personnel or freedom of navigation.

“These targeted attacks send a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to threaten freedom of navigation”
Biden said.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, currently in the hospital, played a key role in the operation. Despite his health condition, Austin ordered the attack, targeting Houthi forces, including drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, coastal radars, and aerial surveillance. He later engaged in discussions with the National Security Council and military officials to assess the impact of the airstrikes.

The Houthi leader, Abdel Malek al-Houthi, warned of a robust military response to any American attack, indicating that it would surpass the recent operation involving over 24 drones and several missiles. As tensions escalate, the international community awaits further developments in the Yemeni conflict.
