Russian Assault on Ukraine's Kherson Region

Over the weekend, Kremlin forces attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure and hit several regions using missiles and drones. The Russian army began to put pressure on Ukrainian troops on all sectors of the front.

On Saturday and Sunday, Russia shelled the Kherson region more than 200 times, Oleksandr Prokudin, the region's governor, said in a statement.

The massive attacks caused disruptions in electricity and water supplies in both Kherson and the Donetsk region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an evening statement on Sunday. Although Ukraine disappeared from the world media for a while, the Russian invasion continues. Electricity supplies in Kherson, interrupted after the attack, have been restored. Only 10 houses still lacked water.

— We must be aware that as winter approaches, there will be more such Russian attacks – on power plants, on networks. You must be ready for this, said President Zelensky, addressing local authorities and energy companies. He added that the Ukrainian government is doing everything in its power to strengthen the country's air defense.

"The Russians have not advanced"

Russia attacked Ukraine with five X-59 air missiles, one Iskander ballistic missile and 12 Shahed drones.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported shooting down only two missiles and 11 drones - the rest hit residential buildings and infrastructure. The central regions of Ukraine - Poltava and Kirovohrad Oblasts - and the western Khmelnytsky Oblast have become targets of drones and missiles. Air attacks and intense artillery fire were also reported in the northern regions of Chernihiv and Sumy, as well as in northeastern Kharkiv.

Russian forces continued to storm and shell Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka and Mariyinka in the Donetsk Oblast. At the same time, they tried to regain positions near the town of Robotyne on the Zaporizhia front, where the Ukrainians are conducting an offensive, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Monday morning, adding that all attacks ended in failure.

The situation is difficult. But everything is under control. The Russians have not advanced, Vitaly Barabash

head of the military administration in Avdiivka said.

Morgues and hospitals are bursting at the seams

But the online DeepStateMap — a Ukrainian open-source analytics project that uses information from the general staff and soldiers in the field to show Russian and Ukrainian military operations in real time — shows that Moscow's troops have advanced a few kilometers south and north of Avdiivka. Ukrainian statistics from the front also show a growing number of victims on the Russian side: from 800 to 1,000. dead per day since the beginning of the renewed attack.

"We have observed the concentration of forces and efforts of the Russians. They have created high-quality fortifications along the entire front line, and now they want to break the defense towards Donetsk and capture Avdiivka"

wrote Egor Firsov, a Ukrainian army sergeant and combat medic, on Facebook.

"For now, we have managed to stop the attack. My personal sources show that Donetsk mortuaries and hospitals are now overflowing. I will not give the exact number of enemy losses. But it is definitely hundreds, just in one day. Regardless, the Russians will keep trying"

— he continued.
