Zelensky's diplomatic tour: Baltic allies and Turkish mediation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared in Vilnius on Wednesday, January 10. From Lithuania, he plans to visit Latvia and Estonia. Zelensky flew to the Lithuanian capital unannounced. Upon arrival, he revealed his intention to meet with the president, prime minister, and speaker of the local parliament. He also expressed a desire to engage with representatives of the largest political parties, the media, and the Ukrainian community residing in the country.

Zelensky on a longer trip abroad

Zelensky, on an extended diplomatic trip abroad, stated, "Our solid friends and key partners: Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. Later, I will be in Tallinn and Riga, and today - Vilnius," during his speech in the Lithuanian capital. During the visit, Zelensky discussed security, Ukraine's integration with the European Union and NATO, electronic warfare cooperation, drones, and further coordination of European support for Ukraine with national politicians.

He expressed gratitude, saying, "And, of course, our sincere thanks for unwavering support for Ukraine throughout the 10 years of the war, especially now, after the start of a full-scale invasion." Zelensky hinted that his visit to the Baltic countries might not be the last this month.

According to the Swiss newspaper Tagez-Anzeiger, several independent sources have mentioned Zelensky's upcoming visit to Switzerland for at least two days next week.

Regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine, Zelensky discussed matters with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, January 5.

Erdogan's press service reported the Ukrainian president's recent conversation, emphasizing the importance of the grain corridor. Erdogan assured that Turkey is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to sustain it. He stated that his country is "making every effort to stop bloodshed both in Ukraine and in the Palestinian territories" and reiterated Turkey's readiness to serve as a mediator and facilitate talks for peace in the war-torn country.
