Kyiv... on the Maidan there is a pushing Maidan in support of Zaluzhny

Following the resignation of Ukraine's Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, supporters of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko are calling for a gathering at Maidan.

"Zaluzhny did not issue any statement nor agree to any position," stated blogger Karl Volokh, a staunch supporter of Poroshenko. "I believe it's crucial to discuss a change in strategy and adopt a new approach—something that concerns President Zelensky as well." He plans to commence the gathering tomorrow at 5 p.m. near the stele. The post garnered thousands of likes, numerous shares, and a considerable number of comments echoing similar sentiments.

"Kyiv should take the lead, and we will follow suit in the regions"
read the first comment.

It's worth recalling that the Euromaidan protests in 2013-14 began with a call to assemble at Maidan with "umbrellas and good humor."

Meanwhile, the Western press observes that Zaluzhny will be succeeded by Syrski, a choice likely to be unpopular among military personnel.

According to the Washington Post, many ordinary soldiers hold unfavorable opinions of Syrski, accusing him of employing Soviet-style command methods. Criticism has also been directed at him for allegedly keeping Ukrainian troops under fire in Bakhmut for an extended period instead of ordering a retreat.

The publication highlights the uncertainty surrounding how Syrski's appointment will address Ukraine's increasingly perilous situation on the battlefield. Russia's heightened attacks on the front line and the Ukrainian command's desperate shortage of manpower, particularly infantry, underscore the challenges ahead.
