Explosions in Crimea on July 24. A batch of P-800 Onyx missiles was allegedly destroyed in a nighttime attack on a munitions depot near Dzhankoy in the temporarily occupied Crimea. With these rockets, the occupiers bombed cities in southern Ukraine.
Partisans in the Crimea reported the destruction of “Onyx”. This information was also provided by the head of the Public Council at the Odessa Regional State Administration, Serhiy Brachuk. According to him, these missiles were supposed to fly to Odessa.
“The demilitarization of Crimea continues and that is good news. I hope that the onyx that flew to Odessa is now less,” Bratchuk said.
He added that the information still needs clarification.
“The resistance movement reports that the enemy is not taking into account the Onyx missiles that were stored in the BC warehouse near Dzhankoy. The information is clarified,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the authors of the Telegram channel “Crimean partisans” report: “Our sources report that a batch of P-800 Onyx missiles was destroyed in the BC warehouse near Dzhankoy, from which the Russians have been shelling Odessa and Mykolaiv for several days.”
Ukrainian air defense system cannot or hardly can shoot down Russian Onyx missiles. Yuri Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, explained why.
“Onyx missiles are designed to destroy vessels, ships, they fly at Mach 2.6. This is over 3000 km per hour, which means the speed is high. On the march, the missile can fly high to save fuel, and when approaching the target, it can actually fly 10–15 meters above the water to destroy the ship,” Yuri Ignat explained on the telethon, reports the BBC.
“Onyx” is a medium-range supersonic general-purpose anti-ship missile. It is designed to combat surface sea groups and single ships in conditions of strong fire and radio-electronic countermeasures. It can also be used against ground targets. The rocket has undergone a number of modernizations.
