This decision means that Oleksiy Reznikov will lose his position.
Kyrylo Budanov, the former head of the Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR), is to become the new defense minister of Ukraine. This was reported by Davyd Arakhamia, head of the presidential bloc Servant of the People. “The war dictates changes in personnel policy,” he said.
According to Arakhamia, the current head of the Ukrainian Ministry of National Defence, Oleksiy Reznikov, will be transferred to the position of Minister of Strategic Industries.
He did not say when the movement would be formalized.
Earlier, the Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing sources in the presidential office, government and law enforcement agencies, that Reznikov may resign as defense minister. Zelensky's office believes that Reznikov "should remain in the team” of the Ukrainian president. The minister himself told Ukrainska Pravda that he “did not hold talks about leaving office", but stipulated that "every official should be aware that he does not hold his office for life”.
Later, Reznikov told reporters: "The decision whether to continue as defense minister or not is made by one person – the head of the armed forces, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the constitution, he proposes a candidacy, and the decision on the nomination is taken by the Verkhovna Rada (parliament)" . He also added: “I belong to the (ruling) team; I will do whatever is necessary for our victory.”
