Changes in road traffic regulations in Ukraine

Changes in road traffic regulations provide for the obligation to turn on daytime running lights when driving all motor vehicles outside populated areas, and if they are not installed in the vehicle's structure, dipped headlights. In addition, it is prohibited to transport children under 150 cm in height in vehicles without child safety devices.

The government has made changes to road traffic regulations. As Taras Melnychuk, the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, stated, this should bring Ukrainian legislation closer to European Union standards.

High beam lights and the transport of children: innovations in road traffic law

Changes in road traffic regulations provide for the obligation to turn on daytime running lights when driving all motor vehicles outside populated areas, and if they are not installed in the vehicle's structure, dipped headlights.

In addition, it is prohibited to transport children less than 150 cm tall in vehicles without the use of child restraint systems that allow the child to be fastened using seat belts provided by the design of this vehicle and in the back seat of motorcycles and mopeds, except in a few cases.

The list of road signs marking special parking spaces on highways and roads for passenger cars has also been clarified.

Thanks to these innovations, they will try to reduce the number of road accidents

says the Police Headquarters.

Who is the biggest traffic rule violator?

Previously, the "Opendatabot" platform learned that scooter drivers were most often punished for causing injuries to pedestrians. Since 2023, they have been recognized as full road users, but the state has not yet approved special regulations for this type of transport. In all cases, the perpetrators of the accidents were punished with a fine or suspended prison sentence of up to two years.

For example, a man from Vinnytsia who in April 2022 injured a woman crossing a bicycle path and a sidewalk on a rented scooter was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence. The victim suffered moderate injuries, and the perpetrator of the accident ordered to compensate the woman for medical expenses (over UAH 108,000) and over UAH 50,000 as moral compensation.
