Crisis Adds to Ukraine's Economic Woes

Wages in the Ukrainian labor market effectively froze in 2023, but some targeted occupations remain an exception: workers are willing to pay much more even with rising consumer prices. So, it turned out in which regions Ukrainians receive high salaries.

What are the current salaries in Ukraine?

Since the beginning of September, the highest average salary has been recorded in Kyiv. Employers pay about 20 thousand UAH. The specific earnings of the capital's residents depend on many factors, such as the company in which the person works, the employee's education and experience. For example, advertising workers can often receive UAH 70,000. Programmers earn the most – on average they receive UAH 80,000. At the same time, the salary of the head of the Kyiv branch is 6.7 thousand Hryvnia – the difference is colossal.

Next is Lviv, where the average salary is thousands of hryvnias. Top-level managers in Lviv earn the highest salaries. Such specialists receive an average of UAH 60,000 per month. In contrast, teachers-organizers and simply organizers have the lowest remuneration. Their income corresponds to 10 thousand UAH.

17.5 thousand hryvnias per month receive residents of Dnipro, Odessa and Uzhhorod. For example, in Dnipro, the work of top management and military personnel is valued in thousands of hryvnias. And cleaners get the least – 9,000 UAH.

In Odessa, employers value the work of financial directors the most. Therefore, such specialists can count on an average of UAH 50,000 per month. But nurses in this region receive only 7 thousand UAH. Technologists are highly valued in Uzhgorod: their income is 35,000 Hryvnia per month. The poorest in this region were once again cleaners – 11.3 thousand Hryvnia and credit experts – 11.5 thousand hryvnia.

In other cities, the average salary is UAH 15,000 per month. They pay the least in the Sumy Oblast – an average of 13,000 UAH. At the same time, the local military personnel can count on 72.5 thousand Hryvnia.

The situation in Kryvyi Rih is not much better. The average earnings in this region are UAH 14,000. Military personnel also receive 72,500 Hryvnia here. The lowest salary for cleaners is thousands of hryvnias.

How have wages changed in Ukraine?

Over the last quarter, the average salary in Ukraine has practically not changed. According to statistics, citizens looking for a job indicate that the salary they demand is higher than that offered by the employer. The difference is 2 thousand UAH.

According to PFU data, real wages increased by 14.7% in the summer compared to June last year. While a year ago it was 13.95 thousand Hryvnia.

The Employment Service indicated who finds it most difficult to find a job
As noted by the State Employment Services, there are a number of professions for which it is most difficult for representatives to find vacant positions. Therefore, from the beginning of August, the greatest competition could be observed among postmen. There are only 218 vacancies available on the labor market, and 3,988 people are willing to take up such work.

Office cleaners are also having difficulty finding work. 2,826 unemployed Ukrainians are applying for 658 vacant job positions. It is no less difficult for packers – 1,105 people are looking for such a job, and there are four times fewer vacancies – 277.

There are also no job offers for the following employees:

  • Civil service specialists (301 vacancies and 1,073 unemployed);
  • Teachers' assistants in kindergarten (136 vacant positions and 643 unemployed);
  • Economists (146 vacancies and 555 unemployed);
  • Civil servants (45 vacancies and 420 unemployed);
  • Lawyers (91 vacancies and 206 unemployed).
