In Ukraine, foreigners will be checked when issuing residence permits

This was announced by the permanent representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, on Telegram.

This concerns changes in resolutions of the Council of Ministers in connection with the adoption of the law "On amending certain legal acts of Ukraine on improving legislation in the field of migration." In particular, about the new version of the Procedure for extending the period of stay and temporary stay or shortening the period of temporary stay of foreigners and stateless persons on the territory of Ukraine.

"When issuing a permanent or temporary residence permit in Ukraine, verification of visa applicants based on place of residence has been introduced, taking into account the possibility of applicants belonging to several citizenships at the same time, in order to strengthen control over citizens of Ukraine of the Russian Federation who are trying to have several citizenships," Melnychuk explained.

According to him, the government has also regulated the documentation of stateless status in the case of people who have been resident in Ukraine for a long time based on a permanent residence permit, but do not have documents confirming such status.

“Foreigners and stateless persons may submit documents to exchange a temporary residence permit in the territory of Ukraine no later than on the last day of its validity (today – no later than within 15 working days),” Melnychuk added.

Previously, the government expanded the circle of foreigners and stateless persons who have the right to obtain an immigration permit to Ukraine.

In July, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed amendments to the Law "On Immigration" adopted by the parliament regarding improving the conditions and procedures for immigration of foreigners and stateless persons to Ukraine.
