The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv an agent of the Russian Federal Security Service who wanted to join the “Drone Army” school to spy on the Ukrainian military.
FSB agents arrested in Kyiv
The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a Russian FSB agent and a combat group in Kyiv. The group consisted of three people who prepared a series of powerful explosions at Ukrainian military facilities, the press office of the Security Service of Ukraine reported.
It should be noted that among the priority “targets” of the group were units of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense, as well as their backup command posts. Russian agents planned to use up to 10 drones, which they had specially equipped with improvised explosives, to carry out sabotage.
However, SBU officers were proactive and detained all members of the Russian group as they began the active phase of preparing the sabotage
- we read in the statement.
It was established that the hostile group was created in 2018 by an employee of the 9th directorate of the Operational Information Department of the FSB service. It consisted of three people (residents of Kyiv and Chernihiv), who, after being recruited, were placed on “standby” until the full-scale Russian invasion began.
Each member of the Russian agent and combat group had his own specialization in conducting reconnaissance and subversive activities. One of them produced improvised explosive devices, while the other was responsible for converting “civilian” unmanned aerial vehicles into attack drones.
Laboratories for the production of explosives and “improving” drones were located in the defendants' places of residence. A member of the hostile group was a woman – a drone pilot. To acquire appropriate skills, in March this year, she took part in a UAV operator course in the Kyiv region. This spring, the defendants began tracking the locations of Defense Force units in the capital region.
Based on the collected evidence, the hostile accomplices were served with a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They are currently in custody. They face up to 15 years in prison.
