Russia buys hundreds of thousands of bulletproof vests, helmets and other equipment from China

China is helping to arm Russia with helicopters, drones, optical sights and critical metals used in the defense industry. The Telegraph writes about it.

Sanctioned Russian companies producing missile launchers, armored vehicles and strategic bombers have received tens of thousands of components from China since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The publication notes that trade between China and Russia is expected to exceed $200 billion this year, a new record, even though Chinese exports to other countries have fallen significantly. An analysis of trade data shows that exports to the Russian Federation of goods with potential military use have more than tripled in the 12 months compared to the previous period.

It is noted that China trades in dual-use goods, which allows it to circumvent international sanctions and claim that it only trades legally with Russia.

China's support appears to be helping Russia survive the sanctions, calling into question the effectiveness of a key part of the West's campaign against Moscow to cripple the Russian economy.

The publication noted that Chinese companies supplied the Russian Federation with 1 000 drones, six helicopters, optical sights, titanium alloy products used in the production of weapons, and spare parts for aircraft, including military ones.

Among the recipients of the goods were the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Russian Guard, Rostec, the Tupolev company and other state structures of the Russian Federation.

China and Russia's War on Ukraine

China has not condemned Russia for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The authorities of the People's Republic of China are cautious about the war: on the one hand, they did not support the Russian Federation when the UN voted for a resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine, on the other hand, they did not oppose the invasion.

On the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, China issued a "peace plan" for the war. There are a total of 12 points in the Chinese document.

On February 25, CNN, citing US intelligence sources, reported that China was considering sending weapons to Russia to be used in the war against Ukraine.

In April, State Department representative Andrea Kalan said in a commentary to the Society that the US sees no signs that China is shipping arms to Russia.
