Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, together with the Sprava Hromad organization, provided Ukrainian soldiers with, among others, three anti-aircraft artillery sets based on ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns based on Leyland trucks, once the main “workhorses” of the British Army.

Equipment donated to “Ghosts of Kyiv”

The handed over counterparts of our Hibnerites will be sent to the soldiers of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade “Ghosts of Kyiv”, where they will be used to protect the airports where the MiG-29 fighters are based. The former president, together with the non-governmental organization Sprava Hromad, recently donated to the Ukrainian army not only the aforementioned anti-aircraft artillery systems, but also logistics vehicles and vehicles supporting the efficient functioning of the units.

These include mobile laundries, car workshops, bathhouses and the command center for Poseidon unmanned aerial vehicles. In addition, the soldiers are also supplied with Leyland trucks or Foden 8x6 LST (Logistics Support Truck) with the DROPS hook self-loading system from the surplus of the British army. In Fodeni's recordings, he is one of the 11 MLS Shield 4x4 armored vehicles purchased by the Poroshenko Foundation.

A big curiosity in the whole support package is the Foden 8x6 truck, probably coming from British surplus, like the previously donated FV103 Spartan armored personnel carriers. Originally, these trucks served as ammunition carriers for the AS90 artillery systems, but due to their performance and versatility, they have become the basis for many logistics vehicles. Foden 8x6 can carry up to 15,000 kg of cargo, placed either on flatrack platforms or in classic 20-foot containers, which can be loaded and unloaded using the Multilift Mk.4 hook system. Loading or unloading takes about 30 seconds.

It can carry up to 10 people, providing them with protection from various types of small arms ammunition and explosives, depending on the armor package ordered. The choice of the type and level of protection is completely free and depends on the customer's requirements. The power unit is a 360 hp turbocharged diesel engine with an Allison 3200SP 6-speed automatic transmission. This allows, with a curb weight of 14,000 kg, to maintain high mobility of the vehicle in the field. The top speed is 110 km/h and the range is 500 km.
