Explosion of gas pipeline triggers fire and injuries in Ivano-Frankivsk, Western Ukraine: emergency response underway as authorities investigate the incident in Strymba Village

A gas pipeline explosion occurred in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region in the western part of the country, as reported by the Pravda website, citing local authorities. The incident led to a fire in a private residence, resulting in several individuals sustaining injuries.

The explosion took place on a Saturday near the village of Strymba within the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.

According to emergency services, the gas pipeline ruptured at approximately 5 p.m. local time, causing a significant explosion. Following the explosion, the fire extended to a nearby private house, initially resulting in three reported injuries. Unofficially, the Ukrainian portal Fokus mentioned that one of the injured individuals was a child.

Rescue teams are actively engaged at the site, and the gas pipeline's valves have been shut off to mitigate the situation.

Zinoview Andreevich, the head of the Nadvirna district, provided an update to the Hromadzke website after 6 p.m. local time, stating that five injured individuals, including two children, had been transported to a hospital. He also mentioned that firefighting personnel present at the scene were working diligently to control the fire.

Residents of nearby towns reported being able to see clouds of black smoke from a considerable distance.

The village of Strymba is situated in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, specifically within the Nadvirna district.
