Thousands of people loose electricity due to extreme winter weather

During the day, the utility successfully restored electricity to 23,800 houses in 107 towns across the Dnipro region that had been adversely affected by severe weather conditions. This significant progress was announced in a press release from DTEK Dnipro.

The storm that transpired on the night of January 8 resulted in the icing of wires, fallen trees, and the disconnection of power lines, leaving numerous towns in the region without electricity. In response, emergency crews diligently initiated restoration efforts, and within just one day, power engineers managed to rectify the most challenging sections of the damaged power lines.

A commendable feat was accomplished as power engineers repaired 77 power lines and approximately 800 transformer stations. Consequently, electricity was reinstated in 107 towns that had experienced complete or partial outages.

The press release highlighted the tireless efforts of emergency crews who are working tirelessly around the clock in challenging weather conditions.

“Emergency crews are working around the clock in difficult weather conditions. More than 236 specialists and 78 pieces of equipment are involved in the work. Renovation work is complicated by strong winds, as well as a thick layer of ice on wires, insulators and trees, which causes additional load on power lines"
the release notes.

Despite the progress made during the day, the morning of January 9 revealed that around 35,000 homes in 312 towns still remained without electricity. This underscores the continued challenges faced by the utility as they strive to fully restore power to all affected areas.

The ongoing emergency work is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected communities. The dedication of the power engineers, combined with their strategic approach to repairing damaged infrastructure, exemplifies a resilient response to adverse weather conditions. As the restoration efforts persist, it is essential to acknowledge the collaborative and relentless spirit of the teams involved in bringing back normalcy to the impacted regions.

“We collaborate with communities while utilizing over 160 plows and devices”

“The equipment has been operational since January 7 in each district. The total mileage is 23,000 roads. There are no complications, no complaints, we cooperate with communities via online chat. Not without the fact that there are some delays, but they are small. Our roads are cleared of snow and sprinkled” Valeria Harkusha said.

According to her, 51 pieces of machinery were used on local roads, and over 135 pieces on state roads. The anti-icing mixture is distributed on the roads not only according to the plan, but also in accordance with the requests of the municipalities, which report where the demand is greatest.
