Donald Trump: It's time to force peace

In an interview with Reuters, Donald Trump did not rule out that the government in Kiev may be forced to give up part of its territory to Russia to end the war.

He said that if he were president, everything “would be negotiable”, but the Ukrainians who fought vigorously to defend their homeland “deserved great recognition”. “I think they would be entitled to keep a large part of what they have gained, and I think Russia would agree to that as well. You need a proper mediator or negotiator, and we don't have one right now,” Trump said.

— I believe that the most important thing that the United States should do now is to bring Russia and Ukraine closer and make peace. It can be done, Trump said. “It's time to do that, to bring the two sides together to force peace,” he added.

What should happen to Putin after the war?

Trump also referred to the events of the weekend, when there was an attempted coup in Russia.

“You can say that he (Putin) is still strong, but he was certainly, I would say, somewhat weakened, at least in many people's minds,” Trump said. He added that if Putin was no longer in power, it is not known what the alternative would be.

“It could have been better, but it could have been much worse.”

Regarding Putin's war crimes accusation by the International Criminal Court, Trump said that the fate of the Russian president should be discussed after the end of the war, because if “the subject is brought up now, peace will never be made.”
