Davos. Olena Zelenska: Russia's aggression was never meant to stop in Ukraine

— How will the world look like when nuclear power plants are shot at? In which state borders can be trampled? Where are millions fleeing from hunger, asked Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during the annual World Economic Forum. She told about Ukrainian surgeons operating in the light of flashlights and thousands of children taken by force to Russia.

— Ladies and gentlemen, please look at this room. How many people are here and what kind of people are they? How many participants attend forum events? Leaders of states, international organizations, economists, journalists. People who matter to entire nations. What you have in common is that you have a great influence. However, there is something that divides you: not all of you use this influence – Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, began her speech.

Olena Zelenska: Entire Ukrainian cities are being burned

She added that she believes that no problem cannot be solved, but that in order to do so, we must unite. — However, the basis here is global cooperation. That is why it is so important to act in the context of Russian aggression, she stressed.

— What will the world look like as nuclear power plants can be shot at? How will inflation develop if national borders are trampled? What will the world be like if millions of people are forced to flee starvation? How does the world want to achieve climate neutrality if entire cities in Ukraine are being burned at the moment? She asked the wife of the Ukrainian president.

She noted that Russian aggression was never intended to be limited to Ukraine. — This aggression was supposed to go further. If the sum of our influence does not exceed this aggression, she added.

Zelenska: We cannot allow a second Chernobyl

— We cannot allow a second Chernobyl. We cannot accept that children should be forced to learn how to survive radioactive contamination. It is humiliating for humanity that mass starvation could be possible somewhere in the world, Zelenskaya said.

He noted that Ukraine talks about energy security so that no child in the world has to do their homework by candlelight. — Just like children in Ukraine do. We are also talking about it so that no doctor in the world has to perform operations with flashlights. That's what our surgeons in Kiev or Lviv did, she added.

Illegal adoption of Ukrainian children

— It is very important to release all deportees and prisoners of war. People who are told that no one will help them. Not only those deported people are tortured, but also their families. Children who have been separated from their parents. Thousands of Ukrainian children for illegal adoption by Russian families. All so that these children forget who they really are.

She called it “a crime against the essence of parenthood.” — Everyone has the right to life. Therefore, a separate point of our peace formula is the complete withdrawal of the Russian forces from the territory of Ukraine. This will guarantee the cessation of hostilities, the restoration of the force of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. In addition, there are our people in the occupied territories waiting to be liberated.

“There are no safe places in Ukraine”

— The next point is justice, which is what the dignity of each person killed under the rubble of their own home requires. Hundreds of children who have lost limbs. All people trying to survive in the cellars of Mariupol. All those people who were running away from the executioners in Bucza - she mentioned.

She pointed out that justice is needed so that no one thinks that genocide can go unpunished. “It's not the need of Ukraine – it's the need of the world,” she stressed.

— There are no completely safe places in Ukraine now. Anyone who is in Ukraine at the moment is risking their own lives, she said. She reminded that in the Dnipro, the rubble of a block of flats destroyed by an anti-ship missile is being searched. “The Russians on Saturday launched a missile designed to destroy aircraft carriers,” she repeated.

— In the morning, it was known about 40 dead. By the start of this forum, the number of victims had risen to 43. The Russians smashed an apartment block on Saturday in the middle of the day, she added.

“Unity Brings Peace”

Therefore, the next point of the peace formula is to ensure that no escalation is allowed. — A peace treaty is to be concluded, because there is a difference between a ceasefire and peace, she explained.

The peace treaty is to allow Ukrainian families to return to the country. — So that our grandmothers, families, children can come back. At the same time, it is something that restores peace, added the first lady of Ukraine.

— We have a proverb that “if people unite, they can even move mountains”. We believe that the world will unite in the name of peace.
