Danilov predicted the Russians reaction to the delivery of ATACMS to Ukraine

Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov

“I cannot say today how far they (ATACMS missiles – editor's note) will reach. I can certainly say that after subsequent batches, some of them will burn in one place"

he said.

Danilov also confirmed that deliveries of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine will continue on a permanent basis.

“This is not the first and not the last time we have received ATACMS missiles. We have an agreement with our partners that we use them only on the territory of our country, which is currently temporarily occupied by terrorists. We express our gratitude to our presidents for directly dealing with this matter.

"In his talks with the President of the United States, Zelensky always raises the issue of long-range weapons"

added the Secretary of the National Security Council.

ATACMS for Ukraine

On June 21, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress adopted a draft resolution calling on the government to transfer ATACMS to Ukraine.

On September 22, NBC News reported that the head of the White House, Joe Biden, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, promised to deliver "a small amount" of ATACMS. Then, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that the Biden administration had decided to send ATACMS missiles to Ukraine before Zelensky's visit, but did not want to announce it.

Later, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov announced that Ukraine would not use ATACMS for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation. On October 3, Bloomberg reported that the Pentagon announced its readiness to transfer some ATACMS missiles to Ukraine as soon as US President Joe Biden makes an appropriate decision.

The Washington Post, citing sources, wrote on October 17 that the Ukrainian army struck the positions of the Russian occupiers for the first time with American ATACMS long-range missiles. On the same evening, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the use of ATACMS missiles by the Ukrainian military on the battlefield.

US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson announced on October 17 that Ukraine had received ATACMS with a range of up to 165 kilometers.

What is known about ATACMS

ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) is an American operational-tactical missile complex with a ballistic missile produced by Lockheed Martin. The military tactical missile complex, depending on the modification, hits targets at a distance of 165 to 300 kilometers, writes the manufacturer.

This is a class of surface-to-surface missiles, meaning they are launched from the ground and hit ground targets. ATACMS are not only long-range, but also very accurate.

Most importantly, the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS launchers that Ukraine uses to protect its territory from Russia are designed to fire missiles.
