A Russian ship in the Black Sea fired warning shots

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the incident took place on Sunday around 6:40 am Moscow time in the south-western part of the Black Sea.

Shots fired in the Black Sea

It was reported that the vessel patrolling the sea "Vasily Bykov" fired shots at the vessel "Sukru Okan". The incident allegedly occurred when the captain of the other ship failed to respond to a call to stop for inspection. "Warning fire was opened from automatic small arms," the statement said.

Then Russian soldiers boarded the Ka-29 helicopters. "After the work of the inspection team on board 'Sukru Okan' was completed, the vessel continued its journey to the port of Izmail."

End of grain deal. Russia blocks the Black Sea

A few months after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in July 2022, an agreement was concluded, the so-called grain deal. At that time, two agreements were signed - between Ukraine, Turkey and the UN, and between Russia, Turkey and the UN. According to the agreement, it was possible to export Ukrainian goods through the Black Sea.

On 17 July this year, Russia did not sign the extension of the agreement, blocking Ukrainian ports. After withdrawing from the agreement, Russian troops intensified attacks on port infrastructure, leading, among others, to damage grain silos.

Naval spokesman Oleh Chalyk told Reuters that Ukraine launched a temporary humanitarian corridor across the Black Sea on Thursday. As he stated, thanks to the initiative, it will be possible to unblock the transport of both grain and other agricultural products.

- We will put cameras on the ships and broadcast live the movements of the vessels. We want to show that this is a purely humanitarian mission that does not pursue any military goals - he said.
