Attack on Feodosia. A Russian navy ship was destroyed

A restless night in Crimea. Ukraine attacked the port city of Feodosia. The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleschuk, said that the attack destroyed the Russian warship "Novocherkassk". “The Russian fleet is becoming smaller” - he wrote on the Telegram channel. The attack caused a fire in the port area. One person died.

Ukraine launched an air attack on Feodosia in Crimea. The actions were confirmed by the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleschuk. He also reported that the main naval ship "Novocherkassk" was destroyed.

Russia initially did not comment on the destruction of the ship. However, before 8:00 a.m., Reuters reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense admitted that the ship was damaged. The ministry said that Ukraine used cruise missiles launched from aircraft in the attack. According to the report, the Russian army destroyed two Ukrainian Su-24 bombers.

The governor of occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced earlier that as a result of the attack, a fire broke out in the port.

Aksyonov also stated that one person was killed and two were injured in the attack. He added that some citizens living in nearby houses had to be evacuated.

During the explosion, windows were shattered from nearby buildings. Traffic was also suspended on several streets near the port. The train timetable has also been changed.

After the attack, video materials and photos showing huge explosions, smoke, and fire in the port part of the city appeared on the Internet.

Ukraine’s Success in striking Russian Navy

The strike on the Russian landing vessel Novocherkassk signifies a notable achievement in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to counter Russian forces in Crimea. 

The strike further underscores the capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force, which is adept at penetrating even well-defended Russian targets, and this achievement becomes all the more noteworthy in light of prevailing concerns about diminished weapon aid from friendly nations.

While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, Ukrainian military officers claim to have successfully sunk the Novocherkassk. 

It is crucial to approach these claims with caution, as both Ukraine and Russia have a track record of exaggerating losses since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has recently asserted that Kyiv has successfully rebalanced the power dynamics in the Black Sea, seizing the initiative from Moscow.
