Attack on Chernihiv. "An Ordinary Saturday That Russia Turned Into a Day of Loss"

On Saturday morning, the Russians attacked Chernihiv, 140 km from Kyiv. Originally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that at least five people were killed, but later the number increased to seven. There are also 136 injured. Dramatic footage of rocket fire has surfaced online.

Information about the attack in Chernihiv was provided by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. He specified that the missile hit the central square of the city.

“The Russian missile hit the very center of the city, in our Chernihiv. Square, polytechnic, theater”, he wrote on social media. “An ordinary Saturday that Russia has turned into a day of pain and loss. There are dead, there are wounded”, Zelensky added.

Chernihiv: Seven people are dead

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said at least five people were killed and 37 injured, including 11 children, in the attack. The Interior Ministry added that during the attack, people were going to the church for a service on the occasion of the Transfiguration of Christ celebrated today by the Orthodox.

In a subsequent entry, the ministry reported that a sixth person injured in the attack has died. She is a six-year-old girl.

UPDATE. In the afternoon, it was reported that the death toll had risen to seven and 117 people were injured. August 19-21 were declared days of mourning.

Doctors tried to save the girl, but she died.

As a result of the Russian missile attack on Chernihiv on August 19, six-year-old Zofia Gołyńska was killed. The girl was the only and long-awaited daughter of her parents.
