Military drones are swarming the skies of Ukraine

Ukraine is poised to shift the dynamics of drone production and utilization, as indicated in Volodymyr Zelensky's New Year's speech. The plan involves supplying one million drones to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the end of 2024, equating to approximately 2,732 units daily – a challenging yet feasible goal according to Ukrainian experts.

The strategy hinges on significantly boosting local military production, viewed as the "engine of economic recovery," with plans to increase production capacity sixfold.

However, recent developments suggest a broader inclusion of civilians in this initiative. The Zhytomyr drone platform has been established with the aim of involving ordinary Ukrainians in drone assembly. This platform serves as a nexus for engineers, suppliers, logisticians, and donors, fostering collaboration to increase the production of drones.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, outlines the steps for citizens to contribute to this effort. Interested individuals can register and access training through the Diia application, employing the Diia. Signature function to receive a call sign for data protection. This authentication method ensures that only authorized individuals participate.

Everyone can help. There are several ways

Initiated by the Zhytomyr City Council, the platform provides online training, enabling users to choose a drone model for assembly and subsequent testing. Successful tests result in the deployed drone reaching the front lines, allowing the creator to witness its effectiveness in hitting targets.

The platform offers multiple ways for citizens to contribute, including fundraising for drones or becoming suppliers of drone parts. Engineers can order components directly from interested parties, supporting their drone-building endeavors.

Notably, the platform pioneers a comprehensive approach in Ukraine, conducting tests, streamlining logistics for drone delivery to the front lines, and providing partial compensation (6,000 hryvnias) to Zhytomyr commune residents for drone production costs.
