Allies of Ukraine have found money for 800,000 shells

Allies of Ukraine have raised almost all of the funds for 800,000 artillery shells that will be able to be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks. The Czech Republic will be the intermediary between governments willing to finance the purchase of ammunition.

Soon 800,000 artillery shells could reach Ukraine. Kyiv's allies have raised almost all of the funds. According to Bloomberg, the shells could be delivered to the Ukrainian army within a few weeks. As the agency's publication shows, the Czech Republic will be the intermediary between Ukraine and governments ready to finance the purchase of ammunition. Bloomberg's sources say the shells could be delivered to Ukraine within weeks, but exact dates will depend on contracts and delivery schedules and are subject to change.

800,000 shells could soon reach Ukraine

Czech President Petr Pavel said in February that Prague had found around 800,000 ammunition that could be purchased from non-EU countries and delivered within weeks if money was available. A few days later, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted leaders in Paris to discuss support for Ukraine, including the Czech proposal. Bloomberg estimated that Ukraine needs at least 200,000 artillery shells per month to continue repelling the Russians. The Russian army fires three to five times more than Ukraine.

Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Canada and France support the Czech plan to purchase ammunition outside the European Union, Poland has expressed interest. A separate discussion on the details is expected to take place this week, involving EU defense and foreign ministers.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic, the Ukrainian army could receive up to 500,000 artillery shells of 155 mm caliber and up to 300,000 of 122 mm caliber.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported progress in implementing this initiative. "There is progress, but we will only be able to talk about a positive outcome when the shells are in Ukraine," he stressed during a press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Odessa.

"European allies are trying to fulfill their commitments to supply Kyiv with military equipment, and Ukrainian officials fear that Russian forces could break through their defenses by the summer," Bloomberg writes.

Will Ukraine take the initiative on the front? "We will stabilize the situation in the near future"

The commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavliuk, said that Ukraine will stabilize the front line and begin preparations for counter-offensive operations to take the initiative on the battlefield. He said this on the air of the Ukrainian telethon. According to Pavliuk, the situation on the battlefield is difficult, but under control.

Russia is trying to occupy as much Ukrainian territory as possible and wants to do it before the presidential elections in the Russian Federation, which will be held in March, so they are attacking everything possible, the Ukrainian commander said.

"Our task is to stabilize the front line, destroy as much of the enemy as possible, which is what we are doing, and regroup as much as possible to withdraw units that already need replenishment, bring them to the training grounds and create a strike force to carry out counter-offensive operations this year. We are succeeding in this, the situation is stabilizing," stressed Oleksandr Pavliuk.
