"All the neighbors are dead." The first farewells of people who died as a result of a Russian missile strike are held in Dnipro

Dnipro. In the city whose population became the object of Russian terror on 14 January, the first burials of those killed as a result of a Russian rocket hitting a residential building are taking place. According to confirmed data, 45 people died, including 6 children. The search operation lasted three days and has now been completed. 15 bodies remain unidentified.

On January 17, hundreds of people gathered at the Institute of Physical Education for the funeral of the distinguished boxing coach Mykhailo Korenovsky. These are his colleagues, students, friends, acquaintances, caring inhabitants of the Dnipro. The man was 39 years old, 20 of which he devoted to sports.

According to his colleagues, on the day of the tragedy, the man had just returned home from the competition. His wife warmed up his dinner and together with the children went for a walk. They agreed that Mykhailo would join them later. Suddenly a rocket flew over. His body was found a day later under the rubble.

He loved children, he was the soul of the party

Andriy Andreev, president of the Dnipro Boxing Federation, says: Mykhailo was a master of his trade, as well as a cheerful and sociable person.

Among his students there were many young promising boxers, says the deputy head of the Dnipro Boxing Federation Yevhen Babenko, - Vladyslav Palivoda, Vladyslav Perevercev, Nikita Mashura and others.

Deniro arrived at the coach's funeral with a huge bouquet. He says: he knew Mikhailo from childhood, although he was not his student.

“He also trained me a bit. He took his gloves and said, “Come on, get up, box.” I wanted to be able to stand up. And what gifts did he give! I remember it very fondly. When I was little, he gave me a wooden AK-47 model, I was happy. In general, he loved children very much. Without it, he couldn't have been the good coach he was,” says the boy.

“First of all, he was a very good person. A good family man, father, loved his daughters very much. They have a sports family - both he and his wife are athletes. Corporate, New Year's, awards - no holiday was complete without Misha, the soul of the party, the funniest guy among the trainers ... We hoped to the end that he would survive"

All the neighbors died, she herself was saved thanks to the telephone

Iryna Halych lived in the hall that was destroyed by the explosion. She says: several of her neighbors and good friends died under the rubble. Among them is 15-year-old Maria Lebid. She was buried on January 16, the whole school where she studied came to see the child on his last trip.

“All at once – an explosion. Everything flies – windows, doors. The dresser falls on me. It's burning there. I scream, “Daddy, are you safe?” He screams, “Call an ambulance!”

I dial the number of the youngest son: "Zhenya, if you can, we are suffocating, save us." Father was sitting covered in blood and covered with boards. I scream, rescuers say: there is no passage, the entrance is destroyed. And we're trapped.

The son was let in, he runs in, and there an iron partition blocked the door for us. And my dad and I are trying from this side… We're already suffocating. But my son and the cop were able to open it up a bit, and we were able to squeeze in. we left. And the son also managed to find a cat. And the other son, they are twins, ran to help other neighbors get out. Father in neurology, numerous cuts, stitched ear, he will live now.

“Please help other countries”

A spontaneous action took place near the house. Those whose relatives and friends suffered as a result of the missile attack, as well as those who care about the Dnipro, gathered for spontaneous action. They recorded several calls in Ukrainian and foreign languages ​​to Western countries – to provide Ukraine with high-precision weapons to respond to the aggressor and help close the sky.

Olga, a participant in the action, says that she personally knew two people who died as a result of the impact. These are two young girls, friends who were passing by the house that was hit by the rocket.

How are victims assisted, and what else is needed?

At the site of the missile attack, tents of humanitarian missions are working today. In particular, the UNHCR-supported association "Proliska" provides people with warm clothing, mattresses, bedding, dishes, heaters and solar flashlights. Everything is new.

“These kits have been issued to over 300 people. Today, those who did not know about this help come forward, so there is a queue. We will work until the end, until we spend everything,” mission representative Maksym Kovalev told Radio Svoboda.

A few sex kitchens are still open, women preparing sandwiches and tea for anyone who wants to warm up. According to the volunteers, there is a need for cured meat products, as well as all kinds of “paste” for sandwiches. There is bread and water.

In the afternoon hours of January 17, the State Emergency Service announced the end of search and rescue operations at the scene. The latest data are as follows: 45 people died, including 6 children, and 79 people were injured, including 16 children.
