The whereabouts of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, a vocal critic of President Vladimir Putin, were recently undisclosed for three weeks, prompting concerns and speculation.

The spokeswoman of the oppositionist and staunch opponent of Vladimir Putin - Alexei Navalny - said that after three weeks they managed to determine his whereabouts. There has been a lot of speculation recently around Navalny's whereabouts. The politician, who was previously imprisoned in the penal colony, failed to appear at the hearings several times, and his lawyers were not allowed to see him.

On Monday, Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, announced that they had located him in a penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northern Russia. The oppositionist's absence from remote hearings and the denial of legal visitation had raised questions about his well-being. Yarmysh reassured the public, stating that Navalny was in good condition, having been seen by a lawyer.

Navalny, known for organizing numerous protests against the Russian government, was arrested in January 2021 upon returning to Russia from Germany, where he had been receiving treatment after surviving an attempted poisoning. The Russian authorities pursued additional criminal charges against him, resulting in cumulative sentences of over 30 years of imprisonment.

“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine. I’m totally relieved that I’ve finally made it,” Navalny wrote on X. “I’m still in a good mood, as befits a Santa Claus”
referring to his winter clothing and beard.

In recent weeks, Navalny was not connected to the hearing, which was conducted remotely via video link. Lawyers were also not allowed to approach the oppositionist. Earlier, Navalny fainted in the labor camp and was given a drip.

Navalny, who in recent years organized thousands of demonstrations against the Russian authorities, was arrested in January 2021.

He was returning to Russia from Germany, where he was undergoing treatment after an attempted poisoning. The Russian authorities brought further criminal cases against him, resulting in sentences of a total of over 30 years of imprisonment.
