As a consequence of the shelling, the ship sank.
Gerashchenko clarified that the unit was positioned near Lake Donuzlav in temporarily occupied Crimea. "Due to numerous direct hits, the Russian ship sustained damage that impeded its functionality, leading to the sinking of the Ivanovets," he added.
Footage capturing the moment of the attack on the Russian ship surfaced online, showing the vessel tilting after several shots. The video is available, among other places, on the profile of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Russians were reportedly initiating a rescue operation, which unfortunately ended in failure.
The operation was made possible "thanks to the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the United24 platform," Anton Gerashchenko emphasized on social media.
The estimated value of the Ivanovets boat was between USD 60 and 70 million.
