Ukraine sinks Russian warship in Black Sea drone strike

On the night of January 31st to February 1st, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed the Ivanovets missile ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, as reported by Ukraine's military intelligence press service. The destroyed ship participated in a raid on Lake Donuzław in occupied Crimea.

The Ivanovets was attacked with drones by soldiers of the special Intelligence Group of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

"During the night of January 31st to February 1st, 2024, soldiers of the 13th special intelligence group of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine destroyed the Ivanovets missile boat belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet," Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, stated on social media.

As a consequence of the shelling, the ship sank.

Gerashchenko clarified that the unit was positioned near Lake Donuzlav in temporarily occupied Crimea. "Due to numerous direct hits, the Russian ship sustained damage that impeded its functionality, leading to the sinking of the Ivanovets," he added.

Value of the sunken ship in Crimea

Footage capturing the moment of the attack on the Russian ship surfaced online, showing the vessel tilting after several shots. The video is available, among other places, on the profile of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Russians were reportedly initiating a rescue operation, which unfortunately ended in failure.

The operation was made possible "thanks to the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the United24 platform," Anton Gerashchenko emphasized on social media.

The estimated value of the Ivanovets boat was between USD 60 and 70 million.
