The group comprised six experienced Ukrainian fighter pilots who had undergone specialized training in English. An additional ten Ukrainian trainee pilots attended language training and remained in the UK to continue practical basic training. Besides pilot training, the aid program extended to several dozen Ukrainian aviation technicians.
UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps stated in a government release: "I am proud of the support the Royal Air Force is providing to the next generation of Ukrainian combat pilots and ground crew, who will be the first line of defense in protecting Ukrainian skies. Britain has played a crucial role in building Ukraine's air defense since Putin launched a full-scale invasion, supplying hundreds of missiles and ammunition, as well as radar systems and weapons. While Ukraine was highly vulnerable to attacks by Russian aircraft, drones, and missiles in the early months of the invasion, with the support of the UK and our allies, its armed forces can now intercept and destroy the vast majority of incoming munitions, protecting their civilian population and vital infrastructure".
Ukraine's Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, expressed gratitude, saying: "Ukraine highly values the pilot training that the UK and other partners are providing, helping us prepare for operating F-16s in Ukraine. It is a rapid and effective program to equip Ukrainian pilots with the skills they need in the war against Russia. Once they complete their training with the RAF, pilots will receive additional training from another European nation in advanced flying, preparing them for training on the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. This process will be overseen by Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United States, which lead the Air Force Capability Coalition".

Great Britain has trained 53,000 Ukrainian soldiers with various specializations. In November, the British Ministry of Defense announced that another 10,000 would be trained in the first half of 2024. "In addition to providing a wide range of training programs, the UK continues to support Ukraine in repelling Russian forces. As part of British military support worth £4.6 billion, we have provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with long-range missiles, Western main battle tanks, and logistical support," the ministry stated.
Just before Christmas, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that Ukraine would receive "at least 18 F-16 fighters." These aircraft will go to the F-16 training center in Romania. All planes will undergo inspection and, if necessary, modification before being transferred to Ukraine. Some of the planes require renovation.
