Russia mined the entire front in the south, which creates great problems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in advancing. The Russians resorted to the so-called “cluster mining”. How and why is it done?
The entire front edge in the south, if we are talking about Zaporizhzhia, was mined
The Russian occupiers are doing everything to slow down and even make impossible the advance of Ukrainian forces in the south. Major Valery Shershen, spokesman for the United Press Center of the Defense Forces of the Tavria Region, said this on military television.
He noted that the problem of counteroffensive measures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia direction have problem with mines fields left by Russians. “The entire front edge in the south, if we are talking about Zaporizhzhia, was mined. Everything was mined in front of enemy positions – paths, landings, fields, huge areas. Mines were laid manually. There was an opportunity – the enemy mined everything with the help of a PMZ4-tracked mine layer, territories were detonated remotely” — he said.
Shershen added that the Russians resorted to the so-called “cluster mining”. “Mines are released by “Hurricanes” and “Tornadoes”. One cassette covers an area of 8 by 10 m oval. What is it for? For example, to block the directions of our movement or to direct us in the appropriate direction, where the strike group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is lying in wait, a trap, or an ambush. Or to make it impossible to evacuate or move equipment. There is a problem, but we are solving it,” he noted.
According to Shershn, currently in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, the enemy is shifting and redeploying his troops, strengthening one or the other direction from time to time. Because Russia does not know where the major breakthrough of the armed forces will take place.
“In this way, the enemy tries to calculate our actions. This creates a certain chaos, which we use… In these directions, everything is dynamic and controlled. We are talking about our offensive actions. There are positive dynamics,” added Shershen.
