The Russians deported Ukrainian children to Russia

According to official data from the National Information Bureau, 16,226 Ukrainian children were deported to Russia. However, this figure could be much higher. So far, 308 children have been returned, and every child returned is a big victory. The Ukrainian government is making every effort to return as many children as possible to the territory of Ukraine. Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk publicly appealed to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation for Russia to provide lists of all deported Ukrainian orphans.

I propose to immediately transfer to the Ukrainian side the lists of all orphans and children deprived of parental care, who: as of February 24, 2022, were citizens of Ukraine, up to and including the age of 18; are now in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine; were exported from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russian territory.

Vereshchuk notes that the Russians took orphaned children out of Ukraine en masse, and offered Russian citizens to adopt them. It is known that the Russian ombudsman for the rights of the child publicly adopted a Ukrainian orphan boy, despite the fact that the boy's name was on the list of orphans that Ukraine demanded to return.

In addition, the Russians are deporting Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories under the guise of rest or treatment.

It will be recalled that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the Commissioner for Children's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova. They are accused of committing an international crime – the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
