The deployment of Patriot systems in Ukraine is fast approaching

The Patriot air defense systems promised by the US may arrive in Ukraine earlier than planned. The training of the first cadre of Ukrainian soldiers in the use of this system has just been completed. As reported by The War Zone, the training of 65 Ukrainian soldiers on the operation of the American Patriot system has ended. The training began on January 15 this year and took place at the US base Fort Sill in Oklahoma, USA.

The Pentagon's chief spokesman, General Pat Ryder, said: "Upon arrival in Ukraine, the Patriot air defense system will complement Ukraine's layered air defenses to provide protection and cover from Russia's wanton, brutal attacks on innocent civilians and civilian infrastructure. Gen. Ryder also said the training went “faster than expected.” The first team of Ukrainian soldiers trained in the US has already reached Europe, where they are “integrating” with the equipment provided by Germany and the Netherlands.

The Patriot system promised by Germany will consist of both German and Dutch components. Unfortunately, no schedule has been made public that would indicate when the American system will go to Ukraine. However, Gen. Ryder has indicated that delivery of the Patriot batteries will be “accelerated”: “So for operational security reasons, I'm not going to go into the delivery dates other than to say we're confident we'll be able to deliver the Patriots at an accelerated time.”

Ukrainian soldiers train in Western countries

According to available data, more than 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained by European countries and the US in the use of Western military equipment. In turn, about 4,000 soldiers from Ukraine are currently training in the use of Bradley combat vehicles and Stryker armored vehicles.

In addition, training in combined arms is also held in Germany at the Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels training grounds - about 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers are trained here. Ryder: - More than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers have completed platform training in 40 different training programs on more than 20 systems as of April 2022 -. He also added training for Ukrainian forces: - This is an international effort conducted in cooperation with our coalition partners, who are currently training another 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
