A two-day conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine has started in Berlin.

Russian funds will be used to support Ukraine, announced Ursula von der Leyen at the opening of the Conference for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky is also in Berlin, pointing out that apart from weapons, Ukrainian energy needs the most support. Meanwhile, a political scandal has erupted in Kyiv surrounding the Berlin conference.

During the conference, the minister emphasized that "history and geography matter" in reference to the history of Russia and Ukraine. - Russia tried to colonize Ukraine for over 300 years, it's cultural genocide - said Radoslaw Sikorski.

The head of the diplomatic department also noted that Poland has also experienced Russian missile attacks. - A Russian missile fell 10 kilometers from my home - said the politician, referring to the incident from December 2022. The minister also assured that "Poland will support Ukraine's defense efforts and support it in reconstruction and in its aspirations for EU membership." In turn, the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in his opening speech at the conference, called for support for Ukrainian air defense.

President of the European Commission: Russian funds will support Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also attended the conference in the German capital. The politician indicated that apart from weapons, Ukrainian energy is the most in need of support. Zelensky began with thanks to politicians, entrepreneurs, and local government officials from 60 countries.

- Regardless of changing moods, one fact remains - all Europeans need the European Union, without exception
said Zelensky.

In turn, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen responded that accession talks will start as early as June because Ukraine has shown itself to be a credible partner.

Ursula von der Leyen also announced the use of Russian funds. - Russian money will support Ukraine - emphasized the politician. - One and a half billion euros in profits from frozen Russian assets will be available in July. Ninety percent of this will be allocated to defense, and ten percent to infrastructure reconstruction - von der Leyen stated, adding that the G7 group is dealing with further use of Russian money.

However, the goal of the conference in Berlin is to determine current needs, sources of financing, and deadlines. The Ukrainian president pointed to weapons and energy, but also the need for political steps, as they give motivation to Ukrainians.
