Urgent plea as zoo animals drown in flood water after Putin destroys Ukrainian dam
Several hundred animals died in the flood that flooded Nova Kakhovka in southern Ukraine. The city was flooded with water after the dam of the local hydroelectric power plant was destroyed, probably as a result of Russian warfare. — The park was mined, all roads were blocked. It was impossible to evacuate the animals – the zoo employees report.
The destruction of the dam in Nova Kakhovka caused a flood that left several thousand people homeless. The Ukrainians were in a hurry to save themselves and their four-legged friends, but not all of them managed to be evacuated. The mini zoo located in the recreation complex "Kazkova Dibrova" was completely flooded, and the animals there died, the All-Ukrainian Humanist Movement UAnimals reported.
The destruction of the dam in Nova Kakhovka took place on the night from Monday to Tuesday. According to a Facebook account, when employees of the "Kazkova Dibrova" complex arrived at the site around 6 am, everything was already flooded with water.
Zoo workers tried to keep the animals alive despite the ongoing occupation. Unfortunately, it was impossible to evacuate the animals because the area was mined by Russian troops and all roads are blocked.
About 300 animals that our residents knew and loved died. Monkeys Anfisa and Charlik, pony Małysz, donkey Osja, raccoons Miszka, Lelia, Dinka, parrot Jaco Venia, raven Roma, marmots, Cameroon goats, sheep, parrots, guinea pigs, ferrets and many other of our little favorites. Only a few swans and ducks were saved. A baby swan chick that hatched just five days ago also died.
A few hours after the delivery of the sad news about the flooding of the resort, it turned out that some animals during the flood were not in the mini zoo, but in the house of the babysitter, thanks to which they escaped with their lives. Vienna parrots, flying squirrels, ferrets, parrots, chinchillas, and guinea pigs survived.
