The Security Service of Ukraine took steps to unmask, locate and detain a 43-year-old who was carrying out tasks commissioned by Russia in Izium (Kharkiv Oblast). What were they about?

The SBU counterintelligence unmasked another person cooperating with Russia. This is the result of stabilization measures taken in the liberated areas of the Kharkiv oblast. Ukrainian services detained a 43-year-old employee of one of the Ukrposzty branches in Izium. “After capturing the city, he supported the Russian occupiers and voluntarily collaborated with them” the SBU emphasizes.

Tasks ordered by Russia

In exchange for “loyalty”, the Russians offered the man a managerial position in the local branch of Rosposhta, created by the occupiers. While in the new position, the 43-year-old performed the tasks of the Kremlin administration. What were the tasks? According to the SBU, the perpetrator disseminated pro-Russian content via traditional means of communication. He distributed propaganda materials among the inhabitants of the regions, including the Kharkiv Z newspaper.

“In these editions, the Russians justified the armed aggression (against Ukraine – ed.), discredited the Ukrainian military and called on the Ukrainians to support the occupiers,” the SBU points out.

SBU action

After the liberation of the city, the man changed his address and phone number in an attempt to hide from the Ukrainian services. His plan failed – the SBU counterintelligence located the 43-year-old, who was detained. The perpetrator was subjected to a preventive measure in the form of arrest. An investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The man faces up to 12 years in prison.
